The best portfolio tracker for US investors in 2026
A US investor's money rarely sits in one place: a Robinhood or Schwab brokerage account, an IRA at Fidelity, a 401(k) with the employer's recordkeeper, some crypto on Coinbase. The trackers people actually weigh solve different parts of that. Empower is the free net-worth and retirement dashboard; Sharesight does tax reports; Kubera puts every asset in one balance sheet; Snowball is for dividend investors; Stock Rover and Morningstar are research tools with portfolios attached; Yahoo Finance is the familiar quote page; Ghostfolio runs on your own server. Fortunest is our pick for one specific job — several brokers and exchanges read into one history, with returns that ignore your deposits and an assistant that reads the result — and the table says where each of the others does better.
The short answer
- Our pick: Fortunest — Robinhood, Fidelity, Schwab, E*Trade, Webull, Public, tastytrade and more through a read-only sign-in at the broker, Interactive Brokers directly, Coinbase and Kraken with a read-only key, 29 transaction exports as CSV; time-weighted and money-weighted returns against flow-matched benchmarks; dividends, risk and an AI assistant on the free plan (3 accounts, 50 assets). Pro is €6.99 a month or €69 a year. Vanguard does not connect.
- Free net worth and retirement: Empower Personal Dashboard — free, links 401(k)s, IRAs and banks; its business is wealth management, which it may offer you.
- Tax reports: Sharesight — on every paid plan, with money-weighted returns that include dividends.
- Everything you own: Kubera — nine aggregators, crypto wallets and private assets, from $250 a year.
- Dividends: Snowball Analytics — dividend calendar and forecasts, TWR and IRR, from $79.99 a year.
How US accounts get into Fortunest
The whole list, with the route each platform takes, is the Supported platforms table. For a US investor it comes down to four routes:
- A read-only sign-in through SnapTrade — Robinhood, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, E*Trade, Webull US, Public, tastytrade, moomoo, Chase, Wells Fargo, Edward Jones, U.S. Bank, PNC, Empower, TIAA, Transamerica and Alpaca paper accounts. You approve access at the broker's own site; it needs a free Fortunest account and is web-only. Step by step: Robinhood, Fidelity, Charles Schwab.
- A direct read-only connection — Interactive Brokers through its Flex token (guide), and Coinbase, Kraken and Binance with a read-only key (Coinbase guide).
- A CSV export — the Schwab Transactions file and 28 other formats, no account needed.
- Everything else — a statement PDF or a screenshot read with AI, or a holding added by hand. That is the route for Vanguard: SnapTrade reaches Vanguard only through a password typed into its own portal, and Fortunest offers only connections you approve at the broker.
The comparison
Each cell is what the vendor's own pages say, in the vendor's terms. Not described means the page we read does not mention it. A green ✓ marks whichever product leads a row on that row's own terms — often not ours.

Cells were checked against the sources below on 21 October 2026. Prices are each vendor's list price before promotions, in US dollars where the vendor states them; Fortunest's are in euros before VAT. Empower's help center, Morningstar's help center and Ghostfolio's pricing page could only be read through search results that day, so their cells lean on the product pages instead. "Not described" is a statement about those pages on that date, not about the product.
The verdicts
Fortunest — our pick
Best for: several brokers and a crypto exchange in one history, and an assistant that reads it.
Free — 3 accounts, 50 assets · Pro €6.99/mo or €69/yr
You approve read-only access at Robinhood, Fidelity, Schwab or any of the other SnapTrade brokers, connect Interactive Brokers, Coinbase or Kraken with a read-only key, and drop the CSV of anything that exports one; the engine rebuilds one history, in dollars by default, matches transfers between your own accounts, and reports both time-weighted and money-weighted returns against benchmarks fed the same deposits you made. Dividends, risk and a sector breakdown that looks through index funds come with it, and the assistant answers about your holdings on the free plan. On Pro the same portfolio opens to Claude Code, Codex or another MCP agent.
Where it falls short: Vanguard does not connect; a workplace 401(k) comes in only if the provider's sign-in shares it; the Taxes tab has a Czech-default rulebook and no US forms; prices are set in euros; the broker sign-ins need a free account and are not in the desktop app; and there is no native phone app yet.
Empower Personal Dashboard
Best for: a free net-worth and retirement view across 401(k)s, IRAs, banks and loans.
Free · advisory services from $250,000 invested
The former Personal Capital dashboard costs nothing and links IRAs, 401(k)s and other retirement plans alongside bank, loan and investment accounts, through Yodlee. It compares your accounts with benchmarks, and its retirement planner is the reason many people keep it open.
Where it falls short: the business behind it is wealth management — its terms say using the dashboard may lead to an offer to enroll, and allow promotional calls and texts you can opt out of; the return method is not described; and no AI assistant is described.
Kubera
Best for: every asset you own in one balance sheet — brokers, banks, crypto wallets, private assets.
14-day trial · Essentials $250/yr · Black $2,500/yr
Kubera connects through nine aggregators (Plaid, Mastercard, MX, Yodlee, Akoya, SnapTrade and others) as a read-only feed, tracks crypto down to wallets and DeFi, is multi-currency throughout, and has an MCP server for ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants. It says plainly that it sells software and nothing else: no data sales, no ads.
Where it falls short: no free plan, and the entry price is several times the others'; returns are IRR and CAGR, with time-weighted return not described; and it says itself that it is not a tax filing tool.
Snowball Analytics
Best for: dividend investors.
Free — 1 portfolio, 10 holdings · Starter $79.99/yr · Investor $149.99/yr · Expert $249.99/yr
A dividend calendar, forecasts and ratings, time-weighted and money-weighted returns, Sharpe ratio and index benchmarks, with brokerage linking through Plaid, Yodlee and SnapTrade that names Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard and Robinhood. Apps on both phone platforms, and an MCP connection on the Expert plan.
Where it falls short: the free plan has no brokerage linking and stops at ten holdings; MCP needs the top plan; tax features are not described.
Stock Rover
Best for: stock pickers who want research and portfolio analytics in one place.
Free research plan · Premium $348/yr or $34/mo
Stock Rover is a screening and research platform first, with portfolios that report IRR and time-weighted returns side by side, correlation, Monte Carlo, rebalancing and dividend projections. Brokerage Connect links Schwab and Fidelity through Yodlee, and it imports their CSV exports.
Where it falls short: Robinhood is not in its Brokerage Connect list; Premium links two brokerages; it runs in the browser with no phone app described; crypto is not described.
Morningstar Investor
Best for: seeing inside your funds — overlap, fees and style.
7-day trial · $249/yr or $34.95/mo
Morningstar's X-Ray lays out asset allocation, sector weightings and fees across what your funds actually hold, backed by Morningstar's ratings and research. You can connect accounts or enter transactions, track total and personal return, and add indexes as benchmarks.
Where it falls short: no free tier described for the current product; the return method, crypto and AI are not described on the page we read.
Yahoo Finance portfolios
Best for: a free, familiar quote-and-news page with simple portfolios.
Free · Bronze $95.40/yr · Silver $239.40/yr · Gold $479.40/yr
Free portfolios take a CSV import or a brokerage link (through Yodlee and Plaid, in the US only) and import dividends automatically. Bronze adds performance and volatility tracking across brokerage accounts, 401(k)s and IRAs, and removes the standard third-party ads.
Where it falls short: the free tier is ad-supported; the return method, crypto and tax tools are not described; deeper portfolio analytics are paid.
Ghostfolio
Best for: running it on your own server, with no aggregator holding your logins.
Open source (AGPLv3), self-hosted free · hosted plans on its site
Open source and self-hostable: import transactions as files or through its API, enter them by hand, and get return on average investment including dividends, with crypto priced from CoinGecko. An experimental MCP server lets an AI client read the portfolio when you switch it on.
Where it falls short: no broker sync of any kind, so every US account arrives as a file you convert first; time-weighted return is not described; no native phone app.
How we compared
We picked the trackers US investors most often name when they compare — in forums, in search results and in the answers of the AI assistants people now ask — and read each vendor's own pricing, product and help pages rather than a review site. Where a page says nothing about a row, the cell says so. We build Fortunest, so we are not neutral: the table is meant to be checkable rather than impartial, and every product's limits are in its verdict, ours included.
Questions people ask
What is the best portfolio tracker for US investors?
It depends on what you need it to do. For a free net-worth and retirement view across 401(k)s, IRAs and bank accounts, Empower's Personal Dashboard. For tax reports and dividend-inclusive returns, Sharesight. For every asset you own in one net-worth sheet, Kubera. For several brokers plus crypto in one history, with time-weighted and money-weighted returns and an AI assistant that reads the portfolio on the free plan, Fortunest — our pick, and we build it.
Is there a free portfolio tracker that connects Robinhood, Fidelity and Schwab?
Fortunest's free plan connects all three read-only through SnapTrade (a free account is needed for the connection) and covers 3 accounts and 50 assets. Empower's dashboard is free and links accounts through Yodlee; Yahoo Finance links brokerages for free in the US. Sharesight's and Snowball's free plans stop at 10 holdings, and Snowball links brokerages only from its paid Starter plan.
Which portfolio tracker can see my 401(k)?
Empower and Yahoo Finance name 401(k)s and IRAs among the accounts they link. In Fortunest a retirement account comes in only if the provider's sign-in shares it: Empower and TIAA are on the connect list as recordkeepers in their own right, and Fidelity, Schwab and the other brokers bring whatever accounts their approval covers — we do not promise a workplace plan. Anything that does not connect can be added by hand or read from a statement PDF with AI.
Does Fortunest work with Vanguard?
Vanguard is not on the list: SnapTrade reaches Vanguard only by having you type your Vanguard password into its portal, and Fortunest offers only connections you approve at the broker's own site. A Vanguard statement PDF can go through Read with AI, or you add the funds by hand. Snowball names Vanguard among its linked brokers, and Sharesight reads Vanguard's trade confirmation emails.
Which tracker does US capital-gains tax reports?
Sharesight: every paid plan includes tax reports, and its US help lists sold-securities, taxable-income and unrealized-gain reports. None of the nine says it produces a Form 8949. Fortunest's Taxes tab (Pro) pairs every sale with the lots it used under one configurable rulebook whose defaults are Czech, so for a US return it is orientation, not a filing.
Is Fortunest priced in dollars?
Prices are shown in euros — Pro is €6.99 a month or €69 a year, VAT added at checkout — and at checkout you are billed in your local currency. Inside the app the default display currency is the US dollar.
